Tips:

How well antenna does depends on location and geography.

Many external factors can affect how well our TV antennas can pick up certain signals, such as trees, buildings, distances, and weather. Not taking these external factors into account, the antenna should be installed as high as possible for the best reception. Installing the antenna more than 30 to 50 above ground level would be ideal.

Frequently asked questions about this product:

You can also get more answers from Antenna Q&A or post your questions there to discuss with other users.

Q: How far away from the station antenna can one get reception?

A: It depends mostly upon the location and the weather. You have to look at what would block the signal though. Think of the TV antenna as a flashlight shinning at you. If there is a giant anything in front of you, for example heavy woods, its going to put you in the dark with no signal. These are rated for about 150 miles, and my experience says that this is valid. (By anonymous customer in Feburary 2016)

Q: I have two TVs one upstairs and one downstairs how is this going to work if they both need to be cabled to the converter box?

A: Run a cable from each tv to the control box there are two hookups on the control box. (By Jack R. in February 2014)

Q: Can I use this antenna on Analog TV?

A: YES! – The outdoor HDTV antenna works on any standard TV or HDTV. You can use it on your analog TVs with a DTV converter box.

Q: UHF or VHF band?

A: Over 90% of HDTV broadcasts are on the UHF band. Unless there are HDTV broadcasts on the VHF band in your area, don’t bother with VHF antennas. These outdoor antennas are typically of much bigger size, more expensive and more difficult to install. In principle, you can buy a VHF/UHF antenna to cover both bands.

The second antenna from this company.
The price is the same with other companies for the same brand, but the kit is really a good deal. I’m happy with my experience.

Easy to install, and good reception. I bought it because it has a longer range compared to others. 5/5 for now.

I’ve been looking for antennas for a while! This is the cheapest I could find! It comes with free installation kit. I get up to 25 channels, but I only watch a few channels. So far so good.

We live 80 to 100 miles from any transmission towers which are in several different directions. After trying several so called omnidirectional antennas we purchased this antenna after reading reviews. The antenna is outstanding. It pulls in strong signals from all the closest towers and we even get some channels from areas beyond 100 miles.

Keep in mind digital signals are effected by severe weather much like the small satellite dishes so during bad weather we loose the furthermost signals and some of the closest ones come and go during the worst weather.

We have been through several mid-west severe thunderstorms since I installed this antenna and everything still works like it did out of the box.

    Lava HD-2605 Review

I’ve rated this OTA Antenna at 4 stars and this is why. After installing 12 of these antennas in our local area (St. Augustine, Fl) I found they do receive stations very well from Jacksonville, FL where the TV Station Towers are from 30 to 45 miles distance. I personnaly have been using this antenna for about a year and I’m pleased with the results. In fact I consistently receive the ION channel coming from Brunswick, GA – about 90 miles distance.
Listed here are the major problems I’ve found and the solutions:

1: Not all TV tuners are made the same. Some have better sensitivity then others. So far I’ve found the Sanyo to be the worst for OTA (Over The Air) reception. The best TVs for OTA were the LG and the Viseo. The LG and Viseo tuners seem to have greater sensitivity then other models. Also, Sony and Hitachi perform very well. It’s interesting to note that the LG tuners are made by Zenith in the US and shipped to Mexico where they assemble the TVs.

2: On three of the installations I’ve completed reception seemed to be sub par and at first I was unable to determine why. Recently I found that the RG6 cable supplied with the Lava Antenna is poorly made. The ground connection can cause loss of signal strength. When I replaced the cable with quality RG6 a dramatic change took place. On most TVS there is a Signal strength meter to determine signal quality. This can usaually be found, on most TVS, in the Setup Menu. With the better cable the signal strength increased from 50-60 to 90-100 or max. Wow, what a difference.

3: Mounting and positioning the Antenna is also very important. Make sure there are no obstructions between the antenna and the TV Tower i.e. Trees, buildings. FCC regs allow you to mount the antenna, at a maximum, 12 feet above your roof (I’m currently using a 40″ pole roof mount).Go to Rabbitears.info for compass heading from your location and use a compass to point your antenna towards the TV towers you wish to receive.

    4. In locations where you are receiving signals but they are week I suggest you add a Pre-Amp (Blonder Tongue), available from Amazon for about $12.00. Be sure to connect the pre-Amp last in line and directly to the TV set.

In conclusion it appears the Lava HD-2605 UHF/VHF HDTV Antenna with Remote Controlantenna performs very well when used with quality RG6 cable. You can’t get better performance for this price. Also, once installed you can say goodbye to Cable/Satellite bills forever.

I suppose much of what I will write will duplicate what others have said. I live in a mountainous area with many trees. I am about 30 to 8- miles from the various transmitters for TV. I had Dish Network, but we got radio high speed Internet and dropped Dish and got streaming Netflicks. Because we had an old TV and the rotor that we had got taken out by a lightening strike in the area, we had no network reception.

A recent upgrade to a flat screen prompted me to hook up the antenna to the TV and I was able to get about 12 stations. I needed a rotor to get more so we decided on this antenna (the lava HD-2605 Ultra which is the current model – Oct 2013). It was able to pull in 22 stations. Of course, they were not all keepers- we deleted a number of them in which we had no interest, but the good thing was that I am now able to get all the networks.

Details of the installation- the antenna is about 40 feet off the ground at the top of a tower. We have one more section, so if we can find the use of a mast jack we might raise it to see if it makes a difference. We have about 80-90 feet of coax between the antenna and the control box, then about ten feet of coax from the control to the TV. We leave the gain on the control box at 100% all the time.

The weakest part of the antenna’s function is, much like so many other people have stated, the rotor system. If you cannot visually see the antenna from where you have located the receiver so that you can see it move, good luck. There is only a single button on the remote as well as just one button on the box to control rotation. Pressing the button will make the antenna rotate, but you have no way of knowing in what direction. Sometimes subsequent presses make it continue in the same direction and other times it is the reverse direction from last movement. Right now I have it aimed so I get all the networks (CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, CW, and a couple more of the specialty networks), and I intend to leave it right where it is and not worry about the stations I can’t currently receive.

TIP: when using the remote, I press the button VERY briefly, not paying attention to the LED light on the control box. It still moves the antenna. I timed a full 360 degree rotation at about 17 seconds. If you press the button long enough to illuminate the LED on the box, the antenna will often move too far, then you have the fun of finding the correct orientation all over again because you have no idea which way it was turning before, and no idea now. Two buttons, one for each direction would make this a very fine system for the money, or just an indicator LED to show direction of current rotation. As it is, I am actually thinking about setting up a cheap CCTV video camera or wireless network camera to be able to see the antenna from the TV’s location.

I learned all this while testing my marriage. We have a good pair of FRS walkie talkies and I gave one to my wife and I took the other outside. I told her what to do with the remote and then watched what happened. No worries. I am still married, but it was a rocky weekend.

So I will be able to see the Olympics, I watched game 5 of the World Series last night, and will be able to see so much more that I have been missing for the last few years.

PLUSES: Good price for what you get. Amplifier seems to do a good job.

MINUSES: pretty poor rotation system that needs work to be truly useful.

UPDATE: I spoke of the rotor’s value above (or the lack of same, actually), and yesterday, 1/12/14, I found the rotor had stopped working. I have already ordered an aftermarket antenna rotor which has a real control box, and I was planning on defeating the internal rotor motor for the Lava HD antenna anyway, but just thought I would update this review.

And as far as the value of the Lava’s rotor system- I can’t remember a more frustrating experience with an electronic device.

    Customer09

I had dish and it had terrible reception, with even worse customer service. I purchased this antenna with hopes of picking up the local channels which are about 40 miles away. it was very easy to put together. I intended to eventually put it on my roof. I had it set up in a spare bedroom and it worked good, but still didn’t get all of the channels I wanted, mainly FOX. So, I decided to put it in the attic due to the cold and snow in my state and put it on the roof when it was warmer. It works great up there, it is about 12 foot up from ground level. I wanted to hook it up to two tv’s, but really didn’t have much of a clue how to do this. I looked on the back of the antenna controller box and it has a connector for two tv’s – tv1 and tv2. I hooked it to the cables from dish and it works perfect. It is hard to determine where it is pointing while in the attic, I have found that if I point it in the general direction of the tv towers that I get almost every channel perfectly.

When I received the antenna and was putting it together, I noticed that the control box was cracked. I immediately called Lava and they shipped out a new part that day. I am very happy with this antenna and customer service is great.

Works as advertised. Rather than fiddle with the rotary too much, who’s troubles have been duly noted here, I just pointed the antenna mid-way between all the stations south and west of me and it picked them all up with ease. The closest broadcast stations to me are to the south and over 60 miles away and the western stations are over 90 miles away and the antenna had no problem bringing in the signal. I’m looking forward to seeing what the spring will bring as the signal is much stronger that time of year. My old antenna was picking up stations well over 150 miles away and further during those periods. Judging by the ease at which this antenna picks up those stations closer to me, I’m sure it will also pick up further stations during the skip and when the atmospheric conditions are favorable.
Please note: I am using a 24db signal booster in line after the small one provided with the antenna.

With a radio shack indoor antenna on my TV I was only receiving 4 channels and those would fade in and out. With the HD-2605 I now receive about 20 channels with good reception. I used the old Dish TV as my mount and placed the antenna on a 6 foot steel pipe I secured in the mount. My antenna just clears the top of the roof, so I would guess it is about 14 feet off the ground. I love it. It was easy to assemble. I only use the built in rotation motor for initial station location and leave the antenna where I get my best reception. Some of the stations I receive are in excess of 60 miles from where I live. The instructions are pretty much worthless, but you can figure it out or even watch someone on You Tube. The 50 foot cable that accompanied it was defective, but I used the Dish TV cable that was already installed and it works like a dream. The antenna itself looks cheap but has withstood rain wind and freezing temperatures.

With my little amplified window antenna that I had before this antenna I would always have to move the antenna to pick up a week channel, then when I got that channel to work, I lost a different channel, and then it stopped picking up some of the news channels, and at the most would only pick up 24 channels. I set this antenna up on the roof, pointed it at where I thought the tower was on the mountain, and boom, 37 channels now (every channel available in my county in the mountains of Utah) and it picked up the next county over the mountain’s channels so I had duplicate channels for some, and every channel has picture quality like direct tv, before it always had little spark distortions in the picture, not any more, this is a great antenna.

We live most of the year at 8400′ elevation, 100+ miles north of Denver. Satellite TV has been our only option. It is so solidly expected that no one has said anything about trying for digital signals. No one I know has considered it. This Lava, based on a recommendation from a friend who uses one near Phoenix, is my first effort to see what is out there. The 2605 went together easily with the clear directions. Hook up was simple. In no time I was sifting through 40 some TV stations and a gazillion FM radio stations. After filtering out weak signals and uninteresting programming, we have 21 crystal clear channels. I can’t compare this to other antennas since it’s the only one I’ve experience with, but I can say without a doubt this antenna is the one for me. Now, if it will stay together in our wind? So far so good.

I installed mine in a house attic. I mounted the antenna on a 5 foot tall mast, to get as much antenna height as possible in the attic. I mounted it in a position up between roof trusses where it could be properly aimed to get the best signal strength. The rotor in this case is not going to be used. This allowed me to use the 5 foot mast. I researched the coaxial cable that came with the antenna and decided not to use it as it had a smaller center conductor wire than a good RG6 coaxial cable. I ran a total of about 100 feet of the RG6 cable from the antenna to a location in the house where it will feed the existing coaxial cable that was already run throughout the house. I located the amplifier at the end of this cable. We are about 60 miles from where we receive the broadcast HD TV signals. After making connections to the output of the amplifier, we discovered that we had excellent signal strength and picture quality and received all of the channels we were after. With the distance we are from our signal sources and the number of cities that are between us and the signal sources, I set the amplifier just short of maximum output even before we checked to see what we were receiving for channels. After seeing the result, we decided to leave amplifier output set where I had originally set it. We are very pleased with the antenna and at the moment are having no problems with the any of the channels braking up during bad weather.

I found the deals online and it looks like a really good price. The antenna came two days ago. I spent some time studying how to mount the antenna. It only took me total less than an hour to be done. Then I rescaned my TV set and more than 40 channels came out on my TV. Some stations even have hd quality picture. I am calling my cable company to cancel my subscription today. I am going to order some for this year’s Christmas gifts. Hooooooray!

Our family is working on simplifying in order to survive these trying times. Our investment in an antenna was one of the ways we chose to cut cost in our home. Our cable bill was over $50 a month – my husband came across Home Antenna’s website while surfing the web. He decided to give them a try because their antenna had the greatest range – 150 miles. We shopped around prior to our purchase and did not find anything comparable to this antenna for the price. The antenna was shipped on time, arrived in perfect condition and was very easy to install. We get over 30 channels with our new antenna – we are EXTREEMLY HAPPY! We have recommended it to our family members who have also purchased the antenna. We will continue to recommend this product to our friends and family. Thank you!

I ordered this for my Father in law, he lives in the country and was tired of paying $100.00 per month for satellite service.
Delivery was quick, and I installed it in less than two hours including a trip to the hardware store.
It pulled in 34 channels including the channel he was hoping for. ( We live on the western side of Wisconsin and were forced to watch Minnesota TV) Now he can pick up Packer football from Eau Claire.

When working in good weather delivers beautiful 1080 quality picture. Will pixilate with approaching rain. Cheaply made at front end vibrators (can’t wait for dove to land.) Nice small power unit with unique adjustment feature re gain increase or decrease. Same “don’t know where it is” antenna rotor with single button (doesn’t help to know which way the antenna is rotating. Opening for antenna pole is too small for U.S. widely used 1″ pipe. Refurbished is as good as a new one. Everything there in original box, except no strofoam packing inside box so unit beat itself up ; no heavy damage though – just scratching of parts and slight bending of cheap front end vibrators. The unit is far superior to a Quantum which in addition to the Lava 2805 I also owned. If I were again ordering I would pick the Lava 2805 as better unit.

90% plastic but actually works very well once dialed in on tower location. You can download a app to show which direction to point took about 45 min total start to finish but I am an electrician so pretty familer with the type of work but over all if your with in 100 mile from tv tower should be a great buy.

The best antenna and the best deal overall
With my old antenna, which was twice as expensive, I had about 10 channels from which one or two were decent.

With this antenna I have close to 60 channels with great quality and I have all of the major network channels in HD.

This is the best deal for an antenna. Very easy to install too.

We bought this antenna not expecting too good of reception, What we got was way more than we expected. In our opinion the picture quality is equal to or better than directv. we mostly wanted it for news but we got so much more. We live near Bushnell Florida and receive many stations from Tampa Florida. There are about 60 stations available. There is a TV guide for it online. Just love this thing.

Very easy to put together. Works perfect. A lot of plastic and not very strong. This antenna gets great signal strength and hopefully it will stand the test of time. For the price I think it is a good product.

tried every antenna at Walmart and this one beat them all especially on the price, but also for picking up a couple of key channels. The advantage in this antenna seems to be a superior amp. However, for best results I made sure there was only one high quality cable between the antenna and the amp with no other connections in between. My first one failed after a year, but it was probably lightning. Second one still going strong 2 years later. For the price it was great, and I found the customer service to be very good.

We live far out in the country, at least fifty miles from the nearest transmitters. This antenna feeds us 58 usable channels, some from 130 miles away, most with excellent signal strength. By using the rotator, we discovered the ideal reception direction was not what we expected. You’ll need a longer cable than the one provided, so be prepared. You’ll probably also want a one inch antenna mount of some kind.

I bought ours about two weeks ago. Yes I was skeptical but after over a hundred reviews I decided to give it a shot. We live in east Tennessee far away from any major metro areas, with the Cherokee National Forest and Starr Mountain in our back yard. Before I retired 4 years ago, I installed all of the major satellite dishes that received signals for tv and/or internet connections. I wished I had known about this antenna for those customers where I couldn’t get a line of sight for their tv satellite connection. Yes their is some assembly required, however it isn’t really that complicated. After assembly I had the antenna sitting on a bar stool next to my HDTV in my den and thought what the heck, before I climb upon the roof and mount this thing, I wondered if I could pick up any channels. So I began the digital scan on my “tv input” after hooking up the antenna. I walked away and in a few minutes I had scanned 16 channels. I began surfing through the channels and I was along with my wife was totally amazed with the awesome high definition picture. It looked as good as a satellite picture. I tested the control box and it worked like a charm. The next day I mounted it on the peak of my one story home using an old satellite dish mounting mast, and using a short metal pole and self tapping screws, attached the antenna to this mast to ensure a stable mount. I returned to the tv and once again ran through the scanning processing as I did before. This time it brought in 30 channels!! Holy Cow. I pick up both Knoxville and Chattanooga stations which are 110 miles apart, however I am 70 miles away from Knoxville and 80 miles from Chattanooga. This is exactly what I needed in the event of heavy rains or storms when the satellite signal is interrupted. The only thing that was a bummer was the remote control didn’t come with the delivery. However after contacting the company who manufactures this antenna in Ontario, California via email, these fine people had a remote control to me in two days. So, at this juncture, I couldn’t be happier with this antenna. If my dad was still alive today, he would have loved this thing, because he hated with a passion to have to pay to watch tv. I will be purchasing another one for some dear friends who live in the western North Carolina mountains. If you know what your doing when installing this antenna, it is a gem!

friend of mine who lives south of me, about 30 miles from the Macon tower.

He was having problems with the Sat company. No problem paying the bill, but since his mother passed away about 5 years ago, they would let him pay the bill, but not let him change coverage to basic. It was in her name.

Before he switched to broadcast, we went to the FCC broadcast maps web page. The page showed that he would get perfect coverage for 26 stations(each channel has 3 or more stations)

He ended the Sat coverage. They take back everything but the dish, and the mount, and the wires they run.

This is the second Lava I have installed on a Sat company mount. The wires already ran under the house worked in the system.

Now he gets 26 high def stations perfectly. If a show is shot in high def, it is broad cast in high deff.

Here’s my story. I was with Directv for 8 years and tired of the high monthly bill and when I got a error code of 775, I called for service and they said it would be a $49 service charge. Hell, I’m renting this crap from them and they won’t fix it??? So, I canceled my account and purchased a Channel Master DVR+ CM7500TB1 and a Lava HD 2605 antenna. I live 50 miles north of San Francisco out in the country in Sonoma County. My reception at 50 miles and is great. I get 45 channels very clearly (HD quality). We’ll see how it goes a year or so from now.

The only problem with my equipment was the antenna. The motor worked one time and quit. I have a 48 foot TV tower with a Channel Master rotor on it, which I will use since you cannot tell where the antenna is pointing with the one built in and is light duty. Also, the instruction are very vague so plan on figuring things out on your own.

This was my first attempt to cut the cable. The antenna was reasonably priced and easy to assemble and install in my attic.

I got most of the major networks except ABC which is about 20degrees off from the others. Therefore in order to get ABC I have to use the rotor. It works but I found it impossible to fine tune without another person watching it’s movement. I grew up with a rotor and the all had directional dials by the TV.

Now the weather is better I put it on the roof. I no longer need to rotate it to get all the major networks. However I don’t have any confidence it would last a bad storm, rain or snow. I am buying a Mohu 60 to put outside and I’ll keep this one in the attic.

This antenna was really easy to install, but be aware that it will not accept a mast over 1″ diameter, and most mast are 1 1/4″, so buying the inexpensive mast made for this antenna is recommended.

The antenna performs well and will reliably pick up my local stations that transmit 75 miles away under all weather conditions. There are several other stations broadcasting from a location 120 miles away, and they are hit or miss, depending on atmospheric conditions. Overall, the performance is impressive.

The only thing about this antenna, and why I didn’t give it 5 stars, is that I don’t like is that you have no idea which direction it is pointing, as there is no built in indicator. The rotor works fine, but you don’t know which way it is traveling or where it is pointing. It doesn’t seem to be a problem once you have all the stations programmed into the tv, as you can just tune to the desired channel and hold down the button until the station comes in, but programming the stations in the tv initially was troublesome. I finally took a compass and loosened the base thumbscrews and aimed the antenna manually toward each of the transitting locations, and then did a search on each. It was time consuming and a hassel, but it worked.

All in all I would recommend this antenna. And for the price, a little hassel on programming the tv is acceptable

I was surprised when the box arrived it was much smaller than I expected. My first thought was there must be a million parts to this thing. Surprised again when I opened it. The few component pieces were easy to assemble and the only thing I will re-emphasize is restrain yourself from over tightening everything. I removed my old 9′ antenna and straightened up the mast. Mounted the LAVA HD2605 and connected it to the existing coax. I aimed it the same direction the old antenna had been. Finishing the inside connections as per the directions and turned on the TV. WOW! 33 stations and every one of them perfect. I didn’t even need to rotate it. I own a really good TV I never knew how good until I connected it to this antenna. I live in a rural area with out cable and lots of hills. To get satellite was another project so for years I had to be content with what ever I got from my antenna. It was big and subject to the winds and weather. I could get 26 stations but half of them were un-watchable if it was windy or raining. It was now obvious that none of them were coming in as true HD with my old antenna. With the LAVA 2605 the TV shows are amazing, sharp, colorful, like never before. I don’t have a monster antenna hanging over my house anymore. Every channel comes in perfect no matter what the weather is doing. Wind, rain, snow, even the big pine trees out back do not affect this antenna. Not that I ever did but I don’t have to pay someone to provide my TV entertainment. Paying for garbage TV? You may want to consider this option and save yourself a pile of cash every year. I can buy a lot of movies and boxed TV shows for what cable and satellite companies charge. Some of my neighbors noticed the big antenna is gone and wondered what I had put up that is so much smaller. I invited them in to see my TV. They all agreed my reception and definition are much better than what they are getting. I expect to see a few more of these antennas around soon. This was a great investment.

Antenna works well and seems sturdy. My only complaint concerns the control box. With no way of knowing what direction the antenna is facing it becomes a real pain when trying to locate transmission towers in different directions. I would gladly pay more for this option.

1 person has to aim the remote at the control box. Other person has to be outside looking at the antenna to see what direction it is turning to.
As long as it keeps working there is no need to go up on the roof in the winter months.

You can have it assembled & mounted in about 30 minutes. My area guide said I could receive 52 channels and that’s what I get. The quality and clarity of the HD stations is actually better than cable. Last week we had winds up to 50 plus mph and the antenna held up just fine. I have it mounted on a 10 foot pole to my chimney. This antenna is great and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality antenna for a reasonable price. Thanks for a great product.

ve rated this OTA Antenna at 4 stars and this is why.

I just HAD to write back, and tell you that I installed my antenna on the roof of my house. I’m in a
very rural area of Pennsylvania, I grew up in this area, and I remember receiving “3” channels on
broadcast TV, and only one of them was worth watching. Snowy, static, noise, and some days, just
no reception worth even trying to watch. Now several years later, in the same area, with my new
TVs, I am able to bring in almost 36 channels over the air! That little antenna you’re selling is
everything I had hoped it would be and more! In a phrase, You’ve Got To See This Antenna To

I got this antenna a few months ago. I live in the boonies, at the base of a big hill, among the pines. I am 100 miles from the nearest tv station. I got 15 different, English language digital stations and 1 analog station. I also get 6 French speaking stations and a couple of stations showing the same program. I love this antenna. I got a second one for our cabin, which is on the opposite side of the same big hill, on the river and it performed similarly, although it receives a few different channels. My brother got one and he gets 20+ channels. His rotor didn’t work, so we tore it apart did an ohm reading and found an open, cut the plastic covering on the motor coil, fixed a bad solder connection and now he’s up and running as good as new. Since then, I’ve advised several friends to get them and they’ve had good luck. $29.99. It is certainly worth that much. The rotor is a bit coarse and unpredictable. Mine has loaded up with snow several times and quit working. Now I just rap the pole with a hammer and it starts working again.

This Anttenna works great for me as the range of most of my stations are within 50 miles as the crow flies. This is the second Lava antenna that I have used in approximately 6 years. The previous one was still working when it suffered a fatal collision with the earth when the Antenna Tower fell.
Price is right and I recommend the model Lava HD-2605. It has one flaw as you cannot tell which direction the antenna is facing while using the remote, other than that it is good.
